LOREM IPSUM DOLOR

Hallowed Grounds Since 1637

Located just steps from the Salem Witch Trials Memorial, the Charter Street Cemetery – traditionally known as the Old Burying Point – is the oldest documented cemetery in Salem and a cornerstone of early American history.

These grounds offer a quiet, powerful glimpse into the 17th century. Here, you will find the final resting places of Revolutionary War veterans, prominent colonial leaders, and a passenger of the Mayflower. While none of the victims of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials are buried here, the cemetery contains the graves of key figures involved in the tragic events, including Magistrate John Hathorne and Judge Bartholomew Gedney.

Preserving Our Past for the Future

The Charter Street Cemetery is an active preservation site. The intricate slate carvings and historic tombs are highly fragile, having weathered centuries of New England elements.

As part of our commitment to the local Salem community and the preservation of this national landmark, we ask all visitors to treat the grounds with the utmost respect. Please remain on the marked pathways, refrain from touching or leaning on the stones, and remember that grave rubbing is strictly prohibited by city ordinance.

Construction Zone

This is a construction zone and we don't want any digital injuries. When we get the structure to a place of safety, you will see the build process of your website.
